KARACHI: A major fire has engulfed almost three factories in the Export Processing Zone in Karachi’s Landhi area on Sunday evening.
According to details, the fire first erupted at a cardboard factory and later extended to the second factory where clothing items are being manufactured. Later, the fire spread to plastic factory.
Almost ten fire tenders are taking part in the extinguishing process. The firefighting and rescue teams have summoned more vehicles and hydrants at the site.
The fire brigade officials have informed that all the people present inside the factory, including some foreigners, have been evacuated. The personnel of Sindh Rangers and Police have also rushed to the site and started providing assistance to the firefighters and rescue teams.
Rescue officials informed that assets worth millions in the factories have turned into ashes due, whereas, walls of two factories fell down in the incident. The KWSB Managing Director has said that the emergency measures were implemented in all hydrants and 20 water tankers were dispatched to help out the firefighting teams.
