The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvaiz Elahi into custody from jail on Wednesday.
Elahi had secured bail from an anti-corruption court in Lahore yesterday but could not be set free as his release orders were not delivered to the prison authorities.
The former Punjab chief minister was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establish-ment (ACE) in Gujranwala earlier this month on allegations of taking Rs 15 million as bribes as the speaker of provincial assembly for making out-of-merit appointments on grade-17 posts in the provincial assembly.
On Tuesday, an anti-corruption court ordered the authorities to release Elahi, who had been incarcerated for almost three weeks in a case pertaining to illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly, on bail against a surety of Rs1 million.
However, a new case was registered against the PTI president and his son Moonis Elahi on charges of money laundering within hours of the release orders.
The agency then took him to a Lahore sessions court where they sought his 14-day physical remand in a money laundering case.
During the hearing, the prosecution sought a 14-day physical remand of the PTI leader. However, the judicial magistrate rejected the request and sent Elahi to Camp Jail on judicial remand.
After this, the FIA officials took him to jail.
