Water supply to various areas of Karachi was suspended on Monday, with a daily shortfall of 100 million gallons, following a sudden power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.
The Dhabeji Pumping Station, a key water supply facility operated by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), has faced recurring maintenance and technical challenges over the past decade, often resulting in disruptions to the city’s water supply.
According to KWSC spokesperson Abdul Qadir Shaikh, the latest disruption occurred when “two water pipelines burst due to a power outage.” He specified that the affected pipelines were a 72-inch PRCC line (line number 1) and a 72-inch MS line (line number 5).
KWSC Chief Engineer Zafar Palejo assured that water supply to the city is continuing through alternative pipelines. He added that repair work on line number 5 is expected to be completed within 24 hours, while repairs on line number 1 will take four days.
