A severe snowstorm has hit upper Balochistan, causing major disruptions and travel chaos across the region. Heavy snowfall and rain have been reported in several areas, including Quetta, Chaman, Darra Kojak, Kalat, and Ziarat. Ziarat city has already received about three inches of snow since last night, and many roads are now blocked. As a result, an emergency has been declared along the N-25 Chaman-Quetta-Karachi highway.
The blizzard has also halted road clearance operations at Kojak Pass, leaving transportation between Balochistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa severely affected. Many vehicles remain stranded due to the snowstorm. In addition, power outages have been reported across much of northern Balochistan, and heavy rainfall in Chaman has caused flooding in low-lying areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that the rain and snowfall will continue until tomorrow, with warnings of possible flash flooding in several cities.
Meanwhile, much of the country is experiencing cold and dry weather. However, Karachi is seeing a significant drop in temperatures due to increased wind chill, while Punjab is covered in dense fog, leading to road closures on parts of the motorway.
Northern regions have also seen substantial snowfall, blanketing the mountain ranges. Swat’s plains are under cloudy skies, while the surrounding mountains are covered in snow. In upper Azad Kashmir, areas like Neelum Valley, Leepa Valley, Ganga Chotti, and Toli Pir are experiencing a mix of rain and snow. Bagh city has also seen a sharp drop in temperatures following snowfall in the surrounding mountains.
