KARACHI: The claim circulating online that Iranian officials accused Pakistan of allowing American ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz has now drawn a response from the Embassy of Iran in Islamabad, which stated that such reports are misleading and do not reflect reality.

The news shared by these accounts are misleading and do not reflect reality. Some accounts appear to be spreading harmful narratives. Please rely on official, verified, and credible news sources for accurate information.

The embassy noted that some accounts appear to be spreading harmful narratives and urged audiences to rely only on official, verified and credible news sources for accurate information.

In fact, Iran has been enforcing strict controls over Hormuz amid its confrontation with the United States and Israel, blocking vessels it deems hostile while permitting ships from countries it considers friendly or neutral, including Pakistan, provided they follow proper coordination protocols.

Besides that, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has publicly stated that the strait is “not totally closed” but only to enemies, and Iran has even turned back a Pakistan-bound container vessel, SELEN, for failing to meet procedural requirements, underscoring that rules apply across the board.

🚨 URGENT:

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Pakistan has crossed its limits, describing it as ‘a clear act of betrayal.

The misleading dissemination of fake news appears to be based on remarks by US President Donald Trump, who recently claimed Iran allowed ten oil tankers through Hormuz as a goodwill gesture during back-channel talks. He noted that some of these vessels appeared to be Pakistan-flagged, which triggered speculation that Pakistan was disguising US-linked shipments.

Social media accounts, some masquerading as Iranian voices but traced to Afghanistan and India, amplified this narrative into accusations of betrayal, alleging Pakistan Navy involvement or deceptive flag use. However, credible reporting indicates that Iran itself selectively permitted certain tankers, possibly under Pakistani flags, as a diplomatic signal, not because Pakistan was secretly facilitating American passage.

Not to forget that Pakistan’s actual role has been that of a mediator, relaying proposals in indirect US–Iran negotiations. This has created some diplomatic friction but has not led to any official Iranian accusations of Pakistan aiding US ships.

State-linked outlets such as Tasnim, Fars, and the IRGC have not issued statements blaming Pakistan, and Iran continues to list Pakistan among the countries whose vessels are allowed.

MM News firmly believes that the viral disinformation campaign appears to be a distortion of Trump’s comment combined with Pakistan’s mediation role and the ongoing restrictions in Hormuz. While tensions are real and Pakistan’s balancing act remains delicate, there is no evidence to support the assertion that Iranian officials accused Pakistan of secretly allowing American ships to pass.
