Actor and host Imran Ashraf has dismissed reports of his death, reassuring fans that he is “fine” after an AI-generated news clip claiming he had passed away went viral on social media.
The fabricated clip sparked concern among fans, prompting the actor to clarify that he is safe and well. He took to Instagram and asked fans for prayers.
“Alhamdulillah, I am absolutely fine; it’s fake news,” he penned, adding: “Need your prayers”.
The video about Ashraf’s death was posted on a TikTok account which had several more clips in which senior journalists, cricketers and actors were seen extending condolences over his death.
The AI-generated video clip showed that a newscaster on a private TV channel was breaking the news of Ashraf’s death, saying that he had suffered a cardiac arrest that claimed his life.
Ashraf is not the only celebrity who became a victim of AI. In June, singer Tahira Syed, after hearing news of her death on the internet, posted that she was “absolutely fine” and asked people to avoid sharing unverified news.
