LAHORE: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf has called for the resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral ties, saying that it would be beneficial for both countries.
Talking to a private sports website, Zaka Ashraf recalled the idea of the Jinnah-Gandhi trophy and said, “I suggested to the BCCI during my tenure that we should hold a Jinnah-Gandhi series, but they were hesitant to go ahead because of the extremist elements like Narendra Modi.”
“Jinnah-Gandhi trophy would have been similar to the Ashes. It would also have improved cricketing relations between the two countries and people would have enjoyed some great cricket,” the Ex-PCB chief added.
He also backed the suggestion of cricket matches between the two countries at a neutral venue. “I think India and Pakistan should play at neutral venue, if not on home soil, be it UAE, Sri Lanka, South Africa, or any other country,” he said. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan took place during Ashraf’s tenure in 2012-13.
He also lashed out at the current management of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the postponement of Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition six. “PSL postponement was all due to mismanagement because PCB didn’t have a proper system in place.,” Ashraf added.
