LAHORE: The Punjab Legislative Assembly will meet today to elect a new Speaker after Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was sworn in as Chief Minister.
According to the details, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the joint candidate of Q-League and PTI for the Chief Ministership, took the oath of office two days ago at night. The meeting of the Punjab Assembly for the new speaker will be held today at 4 pm.
Earlier, a formal resolution was passed in the Punjab Assembly for the election of a new Speaker. The approval of the resolution for the motion of no confidence against Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari was also implemented.

The resolution was presented by PTI Member of Assembly Raja Basharat. Candidates of PTI and Muslim League (N) have submitted their nomination papers for the election of Speaker. Sabatin Khan submitted the papers on behalf of PTI.
On behalf of the Muslim League (N), a candidate for the post of Speaker of Punjab Assembly, Saif Ul Malook Khokhar submitted nomination papers. It should be noted that in terms of number game, PTI has a heavy margin in Punjab Assembly.
