ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday de-notified former deputy speaker of National Assembly Qasim Suri, following a decision by an election tribunal.
The election tribunal declared Suri’s victory from National Assembly seat NA-265 constituency (Quetta-II) null and void and ordered the ECP to hold re-election there.
An official document was issued by the commission, stating Qasim Suri was denotified in view of the verdict of election tribunal that ordered to suspend NA membership of the politician.
The former deputy speaker challenged his disqualification from the National Assembly seat in Supreme Court on Tuesday. The petition urges the top court to declare the tribunal’s decision as void.
Earlier on 27th September, the election result in NA-265 was declared null and void by the election tribunal of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) that effectively de-seating Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Qasim Suri.
