QUETTA: Doctors and medical staff as the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan have ended their two-day strike at public hospitals in Balochistan amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The doctors resumed their duties as the provisional government accepted their demands of providing them safety kits. Young Doctors Association President Dr. Yasin Achakzai held a press conference where he said that the federal government is providing us protective gear and it is being distributed to doctors.
During the meeting, he said, “We have not been given protective gear yet but we have been assured that our issues will be resolved soon.” The minister said that doctors and other health workers are on the front line of this fight and their demands for safety gear are valid.
While praising Chief Minister Balochistan, he said that Jam Kamal is working to fulfill their demands. “An inquiry will be conducted against the police personnel who resorted to violence against the doctors,” he further added.
The Balochistan government earlier accepted the demands of protesting doctors who are on the forefront fighting against the COVID-19 to provide them with personal protective equipment in abundance.
More than 150 doctors were arrested by the police during the protest. On 31st March, the young doctors association threatened to go on strike in a critical time if they were not provided basic safety equipment.
