KARACHI: The investigation into the alleged harassment of a woman during a gathering at a private institute in Nazimabad No. 3 has taken a new turn after the complainant alleged being pressured to reach an out-of-court settlement.
According to sources, police registered a case following the incident and detained several individuals allegedly involved.
Police later stated that they had been informed the parties had reached a reconciliation.
However, the complainant has denied any voluntary settlement, claiming that pressure is being exerted to withdraw the case. The complainant has demanded that legal action be pursued against those allegedly responsible for the harassment.
According to the complainant, a group of individuals, allegedly under the influence of drugs, stormed the institute a day before the incident while a gathering featuring qawwali, music, and other activities was underway. During the event, a woman was allegedly harassed, and a video of the incident later circulated widely on social media.
Police said an agitated crowd had surrounded the woman before she was safely moved to a secure location. Authorities added that the institute was conducting various training activities for women, including dance and singing classes, which some individuals reportedly objected to, leading to the protest.
Investigating officials said a criminal case has been registered against those allegedly involved, and further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish individual responsibility.
