KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a project to install protective safety nets beneath manhole covers in an effort to prevent pedestrians and motorists from falling into open manholes.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced that the initiative has been launched from Tariq Road, where manhole covers are being fitted with additional protective steel nets.
He said the project will gradually be expanded to other parts of the city.
According to the mayor, the newly installed safety grille is capable of supporting up to 180 kilograms, and its durability has already been successfully tested.
Murtaza Wahab also urged citizens to report any open or damaged manholes by contacting the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) helpline at 1334, enabling authorities to respond promptly and help prevent accidents.
The initiative is aimed at improving public safety and reducing the risk of injuries caused by uncovered or damaged manholes across Karachi.
