Dams are essential!

The country is facing a serious situation due to flood disasters and poor government strategy. Due to recent floods there is a huge destruction across the country. The people who used to pray for rains are now seen giving ‘Adhan’ to stop the rains, because people’s houses, crops, livestock and everything has damaged by the floods. Now it will take them a long time to settle down again in their native towns and villages.

The aid provided by the government is always akin to a drop in the oceans. God bless the welfare organizations that are busy working day and night to help their devastated Pakistanis in this difficult time. In this situation, politicians are looking at visits to flood-affected areas, even if such air and ground visits are limited to photo sessions only.

In terms of the amount of destruction caused by the devastating flood, the aid has not yet reached the victims, one reason is that it is extremely difficult and impossible to reach these far flung areas and other reason it that many fake flood victims are also active to get aid. The government should take stern action against these elements.

On the other hand, some of our insensitive businessmen have increased the prices of essential goods instead of distributing free goods to the victims. This time there is a great need for tents to settle the tents settlements but the above mentioned businessmen have doubled the prices of tents. If we had played a kind role to help these people, we would not have faced such natural disasters today.

When it come to the measures for avoiding flooding in the future, dams can play a very important role in preventing floods and minimizing their destruction and damage. So we should pay attention to construct more and more dams in the country. If in the past the governments had devised a clear strategy about dams, we would not have to see these days, but now there is a need to take emergency measures in this regard.

In order to improve the performance of our government institutions and the ministers, they should be subjected to rating like some other institutions, so that our political leaders do not just continue to do sloganeering politics but also show something by coming to the government.

Judiciary can play an important role in this regard, the relevant institutions and officials responsible for negligence should be brought to the court of justice for neglecting their duties, maybe in this way some improvement take place in the future.

The hard conditions of the IMF have also made the government and the people cry out. The oppressed people are worried about the inflated electricity bills.  If attention is not paid to the reformation of the situation, these accidents and tragedies will continue to happen in the same way and the poor people will continue to sacrificing their lives and wealth for the interests of our rulers and politicians.
