PESHAWAR: Some residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have welcomed the federal government’s decision regarding the imposition of an emergency and a new administrative setup, describing it as a “Day of Deliverance” and expressing hope for change in the province.

Videos showing the distribution of sweets in Charsadda and fireworks in Peshawar are circulating on social media.

Some residents have criticised the performance of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government, alleging that the province has faced corruption, political turmoil and development challenges over the past 13 years.

According to these residents, federal funds allocated to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should have been spent on public welfare and development projects. They alleged, however, that some provincial resources had instead been used for sit-ins and political activities.

Welcoming the federal government’s decision, these residents expressed hope that the new administrative arrangement would place greater emphasis on law and order, development projects and the resolution of public grievances. Some people also distributed sweets to mark the occasion.

Sweets Distributed and Slogans Raised in Charsadda
Videos circulating on social media from Charsadda appear to show people distributing sweets and raising slogans in support of the federal government.

According to claims accompanying the footage, the activities took place after reports emerged concerning the possible imposition of an emergency and governor’s rule in the province.

Fireworks Videos Go Viral in Peshawar
Meanwhile, videos showing fireworks late at night in Peshawar are also being shared on social media.

According to some social media users, fireworks were set off at the hujra of Member of the Provincial Assembly Jalal Khan on University Road. The activity has been described by some users as an expression of happiness amid the province’s evolving political situation.

Hopes for a New Administrative Setup
Residents who welcomed the federal government’s decision expressed hope that administrative changes would help address public concerns, accelerate development projects and promote economic activity.

They said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needed to move towards peace, stability and prosperity rather than continued political tensions.

The claims and videos circulating on social media have not been independently verified.
