BEIJING: The National Health Commission of China said on Tuesday that the death toll from China’s coronavirus epidemic reached 1,868 on after 98 more people died.
According to the National Health Commission, about 72,500 people across China have been infected by the new COVID-19 strain of the virus, which first reported in Hubei province.
As many as 1,886 new cases reported on Tuesday a cry off on Monday’s figure, and the lowest single-day figure of new cases so far this month.
It further stated most of the deaths were in occurred in Hubei province, the hard-hit epicenter of the outbreak. The province has been locked down in an effort to contain the virus, with tens of millions of people placed under effective quarantine.
Health officials in China have introduced steps in a bid to stop the virus spreading, including a rule in Beijing requiring people coming to the capital to self-quarantine for 14 days.
