India’s main opposition party, Congress, has demanded the resignation of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, accusing him of misleading Parliament over military casualties during the May 2025 conflict with Pakistan, according to Indian media.
The criticism follows the Indian government’s June 26 disclosure of the names of six armed forces personnel who died during the conflict, referred to by New Delhi as “Operation Sindoor.”

The names were added to the Roll of Honor on the National War Memorial website, marking the first official acknowledgement of military casualties from the conflict, The Hindu reported.
Addressing a press conference, Congress Ex-servicemen Department chairperson Col. (retd) Rohit Chaudhry and Wing Commander (retd) Anuma Acharya accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of concealing the deaths.
Chaudhry called for Singh’s removal and demanded an apology from Modi and BJP lawmakers for allegedly supporting the defence minister’s statements.
Any minister who is a Member of Parliament cannot lie to Parliament.
In this case, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that nobody was martyred during Operation Sindoor. But, the government itself mentioned the names of six personnel.

He alleged that Singh had told Parliament no soldiers had been killed during the conflict and questioned why the government took 13 months to disclose the names.
Separately, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal sought privilege proceedings against Singh in the Lok Sabha, alleging he had misled Parliament regarding the deaths of the six personnel, according to India Today.
