Communal clashes in Kurram persist as death toll exceeds 100

Violent communal clashes in the Kurram tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have now stretched into their sixth consecutive day, with the death toll surpassing 100. At least 140 people have sustained serious injuries, according to reports.

According to a report by Pak Observer on Thursday, hospital officials confirmed additional fatalities on Wednesday, along with six new injuries. One of the injured, who had been attacked in an ambush on a convoy, later died, raising the total number of deaths in the November 21 attack on the passenger convoy to 52.

The Kurram district, which has been plagued by communal violence and tribal infighting for several months, remains tense. The conflict involves two rival tribes fighting over land. In August, the two sides agreed to a two-month ceasefire after violent clashes resulted in 50 deaths and 226 injuries.

However, fighting resumed in late September over trench construction, pushing the death toll beyond 70, with more than 300 people injured by October.

The situation worsened following a deadly ambush on a passenger bus convoy last Thursday, which claimed more than 50 lives, including women and children. Since then, the infighting has escalated, claiming more than 170 lives and injuring around 450 people from both sides.
