CM removes Vice Chancellor Sindh University from his post

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has removed Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat from his post.

According to a notification issued by the Secretary Universities and Boards Department Muhammad Riazuddin, Dr Burfat has been replaced by Prof Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, VC at Laar Campus in Badin district.

The chief minister as per the notification has given acting charge of the Vice-Chancellor to Dr Kalhoro while exercising his powers under Sindh Universities and Institutes Law (Amended) Act, 2018.

Burfat is facing an investigation being conducted by Sindh Anti Corruption Establishment. The ACE has charged 68 employees of the Sindh University, including the Vice-Chancellor in a corruption inquiry worth Rs730 million.

Dr Burfat and other accused persons have obtained bail while the Chairman ACE has formed a Joint Investigation Team to probe the scam. Dr Burfat joined as Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University on January 17, 2017, and was scheduled to leave on January 15, 2021 after his four years tenure.

Earlier this month on 3rd September, a first information report (FIR) was registered against him over allegations of corruption worth millions of rupees. Burfat is currently on interim pre-arrest bail of the Sindh High Court (SHC) in the same case.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has constituted an inquiry committee comprising Muhammad Waseem, Chairman Planning and Development, and Professor Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, VC of Mehran University, Jamshoro.

According to a notification, Muhammad Riazuddin, Secretary Boards and Universities, Inquiry Committee, has been directed to probe into the allegations of alleged gross misconduct, inefficiency, corruption against Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat and submit the report within one month.
