The International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured the broadcasters that efforts are underway to end the deadlock between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Indian Board of Control for Cricket in India on the Champions Trophy issue.
According to sources, a crucial meeting between the ICC and broadcasters regarding the ICC Champions Trophy revealed significant concerns about delays in finalizing venues and schedules.
Broadcasters expressed dissatisfaction over the uncertainty, emphasizing the financial risks involved and their inability to launch marketing campaigns before time due to the absence of a finalized schedule.
They questioned ICC officials about delays, especially after previous meetings suggested that issues between Pakistan and India would soon be resolved.
“We understand the broadcasters’ concerns and are working to resolve the matter as quickly as possible,” ICC officials stated, seeking more time to finalize the schedule.
ICC representatives, including CEO Geoff Allardice and Commercial Director Anurag Dahiya, acknowledged the challenges faced by broadcasters and assured them that efforts were underway to address the issues.
The delay, reportedly tied to unresolved matters between the PCB and BCCI, and other board members, remain a sticking point.
The ICC assured broadcasters that a resolution is expected within one to two days and indicated that a critical board meeting on December 7 could finalize the tournament schedule.
Meanwhile, sources claim the ICC has not made a definitive decision on PCB’s partnership formula, despite Indian media reports suggesting otherwise.
