Bangladesh’s famous cricketer and former captain Tamim Iqbal has once again announced his retirement from international cricket.
Tamim made the announcement in a detailed statement on social media on Friday, in which he explained the reasons behind his decision to end his illustrious cricket career.
Earlier in July 2023, he had announced his retirement from international cricket, but 24 hours later he withdrew this decision. This time, he made it clear that he had been away from international cricket for a long time and had taken the decision after much thought.
Tamim Iqbal said that he does not want his name to be part of the discussion during a big event like the Champions Trophy. He added that he has already dissociated himself from the central contract of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as the decision to retire or play is a personal one for any player.
In his statement, Tamim thanked captain Nazmul Hussain Shinto and the selection committee, who spoke in good faith about his chances of a comeback. He said that he is grateful to all those who understood his importance and respected his decision.
Tamim Iqbal made his ODI and T20 International debut in 2007 and made his debut in Test cricket in 2008. In his career, he performed brilliantly, scoring 5,134 runs in 70 Test matches, 8,357 runs in 243 One Day Internationals and 1,758 runs in 78 T20 matches.
