KANDHKOT: A shocking and tragic news has emerged from Kandhkot where an Assistant Director at the IBA University, Ajmal Sawand, was shot dead on Thursday by a rival armed group of Sundrani community due to a long-standing animosity between the Sawand and Sundrani communities.
According to reports gathered from local newsmen, Sawand had gone to inspect some of his land in Kandhkot’s katcha area when he was targeted by the armed assailants.
The Sundrani group believed that Sawand was involved in the murder of a tribesman from their community two days earlier and took revenge on him as he happened to be a Sawan himself. After committing the murder, the attackers from the Sundrani group engaged in celebratory aerial firing and even recorded the video of their celebration, which they later uploaded on social media.
Sawand was an accomplished academic who had completed his PhD in Computer Science in France and was serving as a Deputy Director at Sukkur IBA University. The killing has shocked the academic community and prompted action from the police.

Meanwhile, SSP Kashmore has vowed to arrest the killers and a police party raided the house of the suspects, only to find that they had vacated. The police later demolished the houses of the accused in Sardar Khan Sundarani village.
The tribal dispute between Sawand and Sundrani tribes started three years ago over honour killing and has resulted in the deaths of five people, including a woman. The killing of Sawand has only added fuel to the fire and there are concerns that the conflict may escalate further.
Social activists in the area believe this tragic incident serves as a reminder of the need for greater efforts to resolve tribal disputes in the region and ensure the safety of all individuals regardless of their background or affiliation.
