Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain was sworn in as the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday at a ceremony attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

It should be noted that Hussain was elected unopposed as chief minister on June 22 following the June 7 polls, in which the PPP secured 12 seats in the 24-member Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.

Addressing the oath-taking ceremony, Hussain said the election results reflected the public’s confidence in the PPP, crediting the region’s youth and women for the party’s success.

He expressed special gratitude to the people of Nagar, where the PPP won both assembly seats, calling the outcome a strong endorsement of the party.

The newly sworn-in chief minister said Gilgit and Baltistan divisions had long remained strongholds of the PPP, adding that the bond between the party and the people spanned three generations.

He described the election outcome as unprecedented, noting that voters had entrusted the PPP with forming the regional government despite a different party being in power at the Centre.

Hussain also thanked the federal leadership, opposition figures, and coalition partners for upholding democratic principles and facilitating a smooth transfer of power.
