ISLAMABAD: The senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shireen Mazari has said that by introducing amendments in Army Act 1952, Sharifs wanted to have “their” man.
Her comments on social media came after a report published in local daily that the government seemed to be considering amending the Pakistan Army Act (PAA) 1952 in a way that would empower the appointing authority — i.e. the prime minister — to retain any candidate through a simple notification, rather than having to go through a complex, constitutional process.
The report said that the summary regarding these amendments was all set to land before the Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC), following approval by the Ministry of Defence last month, after which the proposed legislation was expected to be laid before parliament.
As per the proposed amendment in Section 176 titled ‘Power to make rules’, sub section (2-a), in clause (a) of the PAA, the word ‘retention’ shall be inserted after ‘reappointment’ in the current text of the law, while the word ‘resignation’ would be inserted after the word ‘release’.
So govt intends to amend Section 176:2 a of 1952 Army Act by inserting the word 'retention" after the word 'reappointment' & the word "resignation" after the word 'release'. Summary was sent to CCLC (was 3rd agenda item) but mtg postponed as absconder NS directed Dar be in CCLC pic.twitter.com/TIMvtD2mIX

Taking to Twitter, Shireen Mazari said that “the summary was sent to CCLC (was 3rd agenda item) but the meeting was postponed as absconder Nawaz Sharif directed Dar be in the CCLC meeting to keep check on PDM especially his brother.
She said the plan (to introduce amendments in Army Act) made things clearer, especially Sharifs desire to have “their” man. Lastly, she asked the DG ISPR to comment on this news.
