ISLAMABAD: Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment Kashmala Tariq has rejected allegations against her husband and son regarding a road accident that claimed four lives in Islamabad.
While reacting to last night’s accident in Islamabad, she said, “The law must make its line but the media should not level baseless allegations against my family”. Expressing grief over the accident, Kashmala Tariq said that four precious lives were lost that night and she prayed a lot for them.
The federal ombudsman clarified that her family was traveling with just two vehicles, not a motorcade. They were coming from Lahore in two cars, one having her and her husband while her son and a police guard were in the other vehicle.
“We crossed the toll plaza around 10:30 last night she said. Suddenly, there was a harsh impact and we fell towards the front seats”, Kashmala added. “We are facing a very strange situation and panic, as we too could have been killed in the accident,” she grieved.
The federal ombudsman said that no one plans such accidents and neither can one be prepared for it. She also called the deaths of the four youths and the resulting suffering for their families a tragedy and express her condolences. However, she complained of being subjected to a media trial and urged PM Imran to review the footage from FWO and take action based on facts.
Four people were killed after five speeding vehicles broke a traffic signal and crashed into a car and motorcycle on the Srinagar Highway in Islamabad.
The vehicles were part of Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplaces Kashmala Tariq’s protocol. Islamabad police confirmed that Ms. Tariq’s protocol vehicles broke the traffic signal at sector G-11 and collided with two vehicles, killing four people and injuring two others.
Police said one of the vehicles had a government number plate. Tariq’s husband Waqas Khan and son Azlan Khan were also present in one of the vehicles. Police have arrested the driver and also seized the vehicle involved in the accident.
Two persons were also wounded in the accident. The dead and injured were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital. The deceased were identified as Anis, Amir Shakeel, Farooq and Haider Ali. They were residents of Mansehra and were in Islamabad to take an entrance test of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
A video of the incident was shared on social media prompting Islamabad Police to take notice. Police claimed the driver and vehicle are in police custody and said it will act in accordance with the law and proceed legally against those responsible.
