KARACHI: Ali Zafar’s legal counsel has strongly responded to the ‘defamatory letter’ by Aurat March and claimed that there was no case in court against the singer.
Earlier, women’s rights activists strongly condemned the government’s decision to confer the Pride of Performance Award upon singer Ali Zafar.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Dr. Arif Alvi, the legal counsel has termed the move ‘a smear campaign’ and urged to rethink this year’s selection.
In this regard, Ali Zafar’s legal counsel issued a statement, claiming that there was no case in court against the singer. The statement said, “It is most unfortunate that organisations fighting for women’s rights are usurping other’s rights and indulging in defamation and a smear campaign.”

It added that the complaint filed by singer Meesha Shafi against Ali Zafar was dismissed by the Punjab Ombudsman followed by the Governor Punjab and eventually the Lahore High Court.
“The cases that are still pending in court are the ones that Zafar filed against Shafi and are both civil and criminal in nature,” it claimed.
It further stated, “The statement of the organization falls under the same as it resonates the same narrative of damaging Mr. Zafar’s reputation especially during noteworthy achievements in his life like the recent ‘Pride of Performance‘ by the government of Pakistan, along with stating falsehoods of pending cases.”
“We urge the media and anyone reading such irresponsibly written statements to not fall prey to any such deception and defamatory narratives without checking facts,” it concluded.
