KARACHI: Former minister for maritime affairs Ali Haider Zaidi has announced quitting the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), joining a long list of leaders to desert the party following the May 9 riots.
In his recent video statement, Zaidi condemned the events of May 9 and said that the decision to quit politics was made after much deliberation. “I am resigning from all positions of Tehreek-e-Insaf,” he said.
Zaidi said that he joined politics to serve Pakistan. “I have condemned the events of May 9 and now I condemn it again. Pakistan forces are our pride, because of them we sleep peacefully,” he asserted.
Ali Zaidi said that Pakistan forces protect our borders. “What happened was wrong. It is important to bring the people involved to justice,” he said by adding, “The decision to leave politics was difficult. I will try to serve Pakistan.”
It should be remembered that in his video statement yesterday, Khusro Bakhtiar said that a year ago he had advised the top leadership of the party not to confront the institutions. “A year ago, I left the PTI core committee membership and South Punjab chairmanship,” he said.
Khusro Bakhtiar said that he was forced to distance himself from PTI’s philosophy due to the heartbreaking events of May 9. “I am sure that the future of Pakistan will not be in the politics of division and confrontation,” he asserted.
