KARACHI: Additional IG Ghulam Nabi Memon visited Jamia Masjid Omar Farooq and met several leaders of Ulema Committee over the assassination of Maulana Dr Adil Farooqi.
According to details, the police chief was accompanied by DIG East Noman Farooqi and other senior police officers. Several Ulema committee members, including Qari Allah Dad and Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi, were present during the meeting.
On the occasion, Additional IG Ghulam Nabi Memon said that the police were making all-out efforts to arrest the killers of Dr Adil Farooqi. Ghulam Nabi Memon asked to nominate two members of the Ulema Committee to assist the inquiry committee.
Additional IG also requested the Ulema committee to cancel the strike called after the passage of the deadline given for the arrest of the Maulana Adil’s killers. However, the request was rejected.
A few days earlier, Religious leaders of the Deobandi school of thought announced a country-wide peaceful strike on Friday (October 16). Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi said that no concrete measures could be witnessed on the ground to arrest the killers of Adil Khan.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) endorsed a decision of the Ulema Committee to observe a countrywide strike. MQM leader Aamir Khan, on the behalf of his political party, announced full support for the strike.
