NEW DELHI: Seven students were killed after a five-storey private hostel building collapsed in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
According to Indian officials, two more bodies were recovered during the rescue operation following the collapse of the private hostel in South Delhi, bringing the death toll to seven.
Authorities said 11 people have so far been rescued, while an estimated 30 to 50 students are feared trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue teams are continuing their search for survivors.
Indian officials said water accumulation in the building’s basement, along with repair work being carried out there, was believed to have caused the accident.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the hostel collapse has surfaced on social media. The footage reportedly shows a shopkeeper fleeing the area shortly after the building collapsed.
