KARACHI: In a major administrative shake-up surrounding the investigation into the murder of 25-year-old entrepreneur and IBA graduate Mir Raza Ali, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan has ordered the immediate transfer of the Mir Raza’s case file from the Ferozabad Police Station to the Zaman Town Police Station in District Korangi.

The case—registered under FIR No. 795/2026 under Sections 365 (Kidnapping), 302 (Pre-meditated Murder), and 201 (Causing Disappearance of Evidence) of the Pakistan Penal Code—will now be actively investigated by Inspector Chaudhry Ghazanfar Ali at the Zaman Town station.

Senior Officers Suspended for Negligence

Alongside the transfer order, AIG Azad Khan issued strict disciplinary orders penalizing key field officers in District East for severe professional negligence and mishandling during the initial stages of the probe related to Mir Raza’s murder:

– SHO Gulistan-e-Jauhar Suspended & Demoted: Inspector Kamran Qureshi, SHO Gulistan-e-Jauhar, was suspended from service and demoted due to gross misconduct, duty lapses, and poor handling of the initial scene where the body was recovered.
– SDPO Shara-e-Faisal Suspended: Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shara-e-Faisal East Zone, Muhammad Arshad Afridi, has also been placed under immediate suspension.

AIG Azad Khan instructed Inspector Ghazanfar Ali and the newly appointed Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to complete the probe into Mir Raza’s murder strictly in accordance with legal mandates, ensuring complete transparency and justice before submitting the final report to the relevant court.

Investigative Backstory & Procedural Shifts

The administrative purge comes after weeks of intense friction between law enforcement and the victim’s family, who vehemently rejected the police force’s early attempts to frame Mir Raza’s death as a suicide linked to crypto-trading losses.

Key Preceding Developments Till To Date:

– Forensic Re-Autopsy: After the victim’s family blocked an initial attempt to exhume the grave due to an abruptly altered medical board, the original board was restored. The subsequent re-autopsy revealed that the fatal bullet entered through the back/waist and exited through the chest, while also identifying broken ribs and severe physical trauma, officially disproving self-inflicted harm.
– JIT Restructuring: Following revelations by family lawyer Jibran Nasir regarding police harassment and attempts to coerce a suicide confession, police high command dissolved the old probe team and formed a fresh JIT led by DIG Crime and Investigation Aamir Farooqi.
– Murder Charges Invoked: With the re-postmortem confirming homicide, the original kidnapping FIR was officially upgraded to include Section 302 PPC.

With the investigation now reassigned to District Korangi under Inspector Ghazanfar Ali and overseen by the DIG Farooqi-led JIT, authorities now seem to purge early institutional biases and reconstruct the crime scene to apprehend the perpetrators.
