NEW YORK: Gold prices declined in the global market on Tuesday, weighed down by a stronger US dollar and cautious investor sentiment ahead of the Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest rate decision. Investors are closely monitoring the US central bank’s monetary policy outlook, which could influence the direction of gold and other precious metals in the coming days.

Spot gold fell 0.3% to $4,003.59 per troy ounce on October 27, while US gold futures for December delivery declined 0.5% to $4,016.10 per ounce.

Silver, Platinum and Palladium Also Lose Ground
The downward trend extended to other precious metals, with silver, platinum and palladium all recording losses.

Spot silver dropped 1.6% to $53.06 per ounce, while platinum declined 1.3% to $1,506.94 per ounce. Palladium also fell 1.8%, settling at $1,030.75 per ounce.

The broad-based decline highlights the pressure facing precious metals as investors assess the outlook for US interest rates and the strength of the dollar.

Gold Suffers Sharp Weekly Decline
Gold prices came under significant pressure last week, falling below the key $4,000-per-ounce threshold for the first time since mid-July.

On a weekly basis, bullion lost approximately 4%, marking its steepest weekly decline in nearly four months. Rising energy prices heightened concerns about inflation and strengthened expectations of higher US interest rates, adding further pressure on gold.

Because gold does not pay interest, expectations of higher interest rates can make yield-bearing assets more attractive to investors, potentially reducing demand for the precious metal.

Will Gold Prices Fall Further or Recover?
The outlook for gold will largely depend on movements in the US dollar, upcoming inflation data and the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision.

Investors are assessing these factors as they adjust their investment strategies and evaluate the prospects for precious metals.

If inflation remains elevated and expectations of higher interest rates strengthen, gold prices could face further downward pressure. Conversely, easing inflation concerns or a more accommodative stance from the Federal Reserve could support a recovery.

However, the latest market movements alone are insufficient to determine whether gold prices will continue to decline or rebound. The direction of the market will become clearer as investors receive fresh economic data and further signals from the US central bank.
