Pakistan’s trade deficit widens 25.17% in July

Pakistan’s external trade data has painted a concerning picture at the start of the new fiscal year, with imports growing at a significantly faster pace than exports, resulting in a sharp increase in the country’s trade deficit.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s trade deficit widened by 25.17% year-on-year to $3.948 billion in July 2026, compared with $3.15 billion recorded in July 2025.

The data showed that Pakistan’s exports stood at $2.939 billion during July 2026, while total imports reached $6.887 billion during the same period.

In comparison, exports were recorded at $2.683 billion and imports at $5.837 billion in July 2025.

On a monthly basis, Pakistan’s exports registered an increase of 31.09 percent as in July 2026, reaching USD 2.939 billion against June’s exports of USD 2.242 billion. Country’s imports amounted to USD 6.887 billion in July 2026, witnessing a decline of 0.17 percent against USD 6.899 billion in June 2026. While on monthly basis Pakistan’s trade deficit reduced by 15.22 percent.

Although both exports and imports registered year-on-year growth, the much faster increase in imports significantly widened the country’s trade deficit.
