ISLAMABAD: Smartphone prices in Pakistan may increase further as rising global semiconductor costs continue to push up manufacturing expenses for mobile phone companies.
According to reports, the growing demand for advanced data centres used for artificial intelligence (AI), along with higher prices of memory chips, wafer manufacturing, packaging, and other key electronic components, has significantly increased the cost of smartphone chip production.
International reports also suggest that leading mobile chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has informed its customers about price increases for several of its chip products.
Industry experts believe the higher chip prices are expected to impact the global smartphone market, with manufacturers likely to pass the additional costs on to consumers, potentially resulting in more expensive mobile phones in Pakistan and other countries.
