Govt announces two-day Eidul Fitr holidays from March 20

The federal government of Pakistan has declared two public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr, expected to be observed from March 21 to 23 nationwide, giving citizens the opportunity to celebrate the festive occasion.

The Cabinet Division confirmed the announcement following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration of Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, as official holidays. The break applies to offices with both five- and six-day workweeks.

Earlier, the SUPARCO announced that the Shawwal moon will be approximately 12 hours and 41 minutes old at sunset on March 19, making its sighting unlikely on Thursday evening.

Authorities have scheduled the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting in Islamabad to officially verify the moon, with Eidul Fitr expected to be observed on March 21.

According to the SUPARCO, the Shawwal moon will be born at 6:23 AM on March 19.

SUPARCO says that at sunset on March 19, the moon will be approximately 12 hours and 41 minutes old.
