Celebrated satirist, anchor, and writer Anwar Maqsood has recently made shocking revelations about travel ban imposed on him and the cancellation of his stage play “House Arrest”.
Speaking at recent public event, Anwar Maqsood joked about a link between Imran Khan’s incarceration at Adiala Jail and the subsequent rise in the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The clip quickly went viral on social media.
The renowned playwright revealed that he had planned to attend the Jashn-e-Rekhta event in Dubai but was barred from traveling abroad. He also revealed that his play, House Arrest, which is scheduled for performance at the Arts Council Pakistan from January 15, 2025, was suspended as well.
However, Maqsood clarified the title of his play did not reflect his personal situation, asserting, “Instead, the whole country is under arrest right now.” He further said that he was barred to address a massive audience, in his opinion is yet another form of suppression.

He highlighted the difficulties he has faced owing to his candid criticism of Pakistan’s military and politicians in his speech. He recalled getting numerous calls at his residence and people inquiring whether he had been kidnapped by the state.
The 85-year-old satirist, known for his bold commentary, remarked, “You will find illegitimate children everywhere in the world, but you’ll only find an illegitimate government in Pakistan. The constitution has been prostituted here.”
