LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to seek the deployment of Pakistan Rangers in four districts of the province to strengthen law and order and provide additional support for security arrangements.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, a formal request has been sent to the federal Ministry of Interior seeking the deployment of Rangers personnel in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali.
Under the proposed deployment plan, the Punjab government has requested three Rangers companies for Rawalpindi, while the deployment of five Rangers wings in Attock has been recommended. One company each has been proposed for Jhelum and Mianwali.
The Punjab Home Department said the Rangers deployment in the four districts is planned to remain in place until October 5, 2026.
The spokesperson said the deployment was approved during the 59th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. The request was made following a proposal from the Punjab Police to seek Rangers’ assistance in security-related matters.
According to officials, the deployment will be carried out under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, and Sections 7(b) and 10 of the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance, 1959.
The Punjab Home Department spokesperson said the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the provincial government’s top priority, adding that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order across the province.
