Asad Umar criticises Azadi March over no women participation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaf stalwart Asad Umar criticized Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal’s (JUI-F) ‘Azadi March’ over no women participation in the on-going march.

According to sources, the former finance minister took to social media and called out JUI-F chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman over absence of women in their march and remarked on their vision of Pakistan.

He wrote, “One thing is clear from what has been seen of the opposition march so far…. Their vision of Pakistan is one where women have no place in the public space.”

According to reports, the leadership of JUI-F decided not to invite women to the march and informed opposition parties about the decision.

“Our women workers are not allowed to attend the march. JUI-F head Maulana Fazlur Rahman has also informed the other opposition parties about the decision”, JUI-F Member Provincial Assembly (MPA), Naeema Kishwar.

Earlier on Friday, the special assistant to prime minister on information and broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the reaction of government would be based on the action of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal’s (JUI-F).

The minister added that Pakistan Army would be on standby and government would call for it if needed.
