KANDHKOT: Eight people, including five children, lost their lives while five others sustained injuries after a rocket launcher’s shell exploded in Kandhkot district.
Kandhkhot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohail Khoso said that the incident took place in the rural area of Ghora Ghat area at the house of Ali Nawaz Sabzoi.
He confirmed the casualties and specified that the deceased included five children, two women, and a man. He added that the deceased and injured belonged to the same family.
The police officer said further investigation was underway and an emergency had been declared at the Kandhkot Civil Hospital.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the rocket launcher was found by children while playing in an agricultural land. The children brought it home where it exploded.
The rescue personnel shifted the bodies and injured people to the hospital. Police added that an investigation into the matter has been started.
Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar took notice of the event, seeking a detailed report from Inspector-General (IG) Dr Riffat Mukhtar.
The interim chief minister questioned how the rocket launcher reached the village. He said a detailed report should be submitted. He asked if any stock of weapons was being smuggled to the Kutcha areas. He asked if the facilitators of the dacoits were present in the village.
