In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly sold for Rs1.5 million to an 80-year-old man who married her in the Phagla area of Dera Ghazi Khan, it emerged on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan Muhammad Usman Khalid took immediate notice of the incident and ordered Border Military Police (BMP) Commandant Amir Taimur to arrest all the accused.
According to the BMP, the 11-year-old girl was allegedly sold for Rs1.5 million and married to an 80-year-old man.
Commandant Amir Taimur said that the 80-year-old man has been arrested during the operation, while according to initial investigations, the girl’s father allegedly sold his daughter for money.
He said that a case has been registered against all the involved persons, including the marriage ceremony priest who performed the marriage ceremony of the minor girl, and legal action has been initiated.
According to the BMP, raids are being conducted to arrest other accused, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
