Rosie, the world’s oldest cat, has passed away. Her owner, Lila Brisset, recently said goodbye to the fluffy tortoiseshell cat, who was believed to be 33 years old when she died at home in Norwich, UK, the New York Post reported.
Born in 1991, Rosie unofficially held the title of the oldest cat in the world, while the current recognized record holder is Flossie from Kent, who is 28 years old. Rosie celebrated her 33rd birthday on June 1 of this year.
Brissett, 73, was with Rosie during her final moments. “I miss her so much. She wasn’t very well, and one day she just walked into the hallway, laid down, and passed away. There were many good memories, and I’m grateful for the time we had together,” Brissett, who adopted Rosie as a kitten, told the New York Post.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest living cat on record is 27 years old. Flossie, born on December 29, 1995, had her age verified in Orpington, Greater London, on November 10, 2022. A spokeswoman from Guinness World Records had previously encouraged Lila to apply for recognition for Rosie, but she never managed to do so.
