KARACHI: A woman in Karachi was allegedly harassed by a young man, who reportedly touched her on the night of August 21 in Dolmen Mall, Clifton. The girl captured a picture of the suspect, which went viral on social media.
The incident was reported by a fashion blog on its Instagram stories. As per the girl, she went to Dolmen Mall, Clifton, when the young man reportedly touched and harassed her.
“When he touched me the first time, I followed and slapped him hard. He showed me attitude and said what I have done?” she said. According to the girl, the mall’s security didn’t take any action against the suspect.
“When I called up security guard, who was watching the drama, he assured me of throwing out the guy. However, after half an hour, I was busy buying my stuff, the guy again followed me in a row and tried to touch me again. I shouted,” she added.
The woman further said she called the security in charge and tried her best to ‘throw out’ the guy “who was alone without family and was just roaming around”. According to the woman, the mall’s security said “what we can do, we cannot kill her”.
“What a response. All happened in hall. No security person helped me and the guy followed me till I reached the counter,” she alleged. The woman further claimed the young man was still there when she left and “was smiling at me”. “Security people were also smiling when I said it wasn’t worth talking to you,” she added.
Later, in another story, the woman said the Dolmen Mall has contacted her and the officials are investigating the matter by looking into CCTV footage. “They already have a system in place including a female liaison although Carefour’s security is separate. They are also looking at making their system robust,” she added.
The incident comes at a time when Pakistanis, especially women, are already on edge after the video clip of a woman being assaulted and harassed at the Minar-e-Pakistan on Independence Day went viral on social media.
