LAHORE: Days after meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ehsan Mani on Thursday excused himself from continuing to work as the PCB chairman.
Mani was given the offer for extension at the end of his term but he refused to accept it and informed the Prime Minister about his decision. Ehsan Mani confirmed to Geo News that he is not interested in working as PCB chairman anymore.
In response to a question, Mani said that he does not want to carry on his job as the PCB chairman. “The sitting PCB chairman hung up the phone, saying that he has said whatever he has to say,” the news report stated.
On the other hand, sources said that PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan has been given additional charge of the post of chairman temporarily as per the constitution of the board.
Ramiz Raja accepts PCB chairman post
Meanwhile, Cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja has asserted that he has been nominated by Prime Minister Imran Khan to become the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
In an interview with private newspaper Dawn.com, Raja confirmed to “have been informed by the Prime Minister’s Office” that he is PM Imran’s choice to take over the PCB from Ehsan Mani.
Raja said an official notification of his nomination by the prime minister will be issued soon, following which he would contest PCB elections and become the new chairman of the board.
Earlier, sources had said that the prime minister would approve two names for PCB’s Board of Governors and there are certain chances that both Mani and Ramiz will be nominated as BoG members as only a member of the Board of Governors can contest elections for the post of PCB chairman.
It must be noted that PM Khan has already appointed Justice (r) Azmat Saeed as the election commissioner to hold the PCB chairman elections.
