The Pakistani government has reportedly disowned ‘Miss Universe Pakistan’ which is being held in UAE.
The news came after a day Erica Robin, a model from Karachi was crowned ‘Miss Universe Pakistan 2023’.
What happened?
As per reports, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to communicate with the UAE government regarding a private firm that has been organizing a beauty contest under the name of ‘Pakistan’.
As per the news, the event selected candidates to represent Pakistan in the Miss Universe Pageant, even though it had not been sanctioned by the Pakistani government.
Pageant’s rights to represent
This process commenced on 4 March 2023. Interestingly, the group from Dubai also holds the franchise rights for Miss Universe in both Bahrain and Egypt. A Dubai-based business group, Yugen Publishing and Marketing acquired the rights to represent Pakistan in the 2023 contest.

It has launched a platform, houseofyugen.com, where it invites applications from Pakistani females between the ages of 24 and 28, regardless of their marital status.
Contestants from Pakistan
Five Pakistani contestants have become finalists including 24-year-old Hira Inam from Lahore, 28-year-old from Rawalpindi Jessica Wilson, 19-year-old US resident Malika Alvi, 26-year-old Sabrina Wasim from Punjab, and 24-year-old Erica Rabin from Karachi.

As per September 13’s voting, Erica Robin emerged as the first-ever Miss Universe Pakistan.
