Legendary cricketer and former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram was harassed by a cricket fan during the ongoing Test match series between India and Australia in Perth.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the incident occurred after Akram had earlier signed an autograph for the fan in the day. As the cricket icon was leaving the venue after fulfilling his broadcasting duties for Star Sports, the fan approached him once more. While Akram was trying to catch a cab, the fan hurled abusive remarks at him.
The exchange left Akram visibly upset, and security swiftly intervened, removing the fan from the scene. The report did not clarify whether the fan was intoxicated at the time of the incident. However, it was confirmed that the abuse was not racially motivated.
In response to the incident, Cricket Australia assured Akram that tighter security measures would be implemented for the remainder of the opening Test match in Perth. The organization also announced that security would be increased around commentators during live broadcasts. Furthermore, commentators have been given the option to be escorted by cars directly into the venue to ensure their safety.
