Karachi police have disclosed the identities of five foreigners targeted by terrorists in the Landhi area of Karachi on Friday morning.
According to Karachi police, the target of the suicide attack was five Japanese nationals who were traveling to their worksite in the Export Processing Zone in Landhi. They remained unhurt in the attack as the vehicle they were aboard was bulletproof.
Police also reported that two terrorists involved in the attack were killed.
The incident occurred near Murtaza Chorangi in Landhi while the five foreign nationals were traveling in a Hiace van. “All five Japanese remained safe. However, the private security guard with them was injured,” police stated.
The Japanese nationals were en route from their residence in Zamzama, Clifton, to the Export Processing Zone when they were targeted.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) stated that the Japanese nationals were traveling in a van with two security guards when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle struck them. Another suicide bomber, who was present as backup, was gunned down by a Sharafi Goth police party patrolling the area.
According to police, no one has claimed responsibility so far.
Furthermore, in response to the incident, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah directed the Inspector General to submit a report after investigating the attack. This report should include details on the terrorists’ identities, their origins, any information on their facilitators, and details of the explosives used in the blast.
