Maryam Nawaz, PML-N leader and daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on Monday became the first women Chief Minister in the history of Pakistan.
In her first speech after being elected Chief Minister of Punjab, she made many announcements for the betterment of the public.
The newly-elected CM Punjab announced a Ramazan relief package, Nigheban, for the province.
According to Maryam Nawaz, it comprises essentials valued between Rs. 6.5 to Rs. 7 million, which will be distributed to the public’s doorsteps during Ramadan.
She also announced to set up marketplaces offering essential items at subsidized rates. Furthermore, CM Punjab announced the provision of free medicines at every government hospital across the province from today.
In another major announcement, she added that Punjab’s first air ambulance will be announced within the next 3 months to enhance healthcare services for residents in mountainous and hilly regions.
Moreover, the Chief Minister announced a dedicated helpline for women, adding that the safety of women in the province was her priority.
She said that her government would provide solar systems to those who are using up to 300 electricity units in a month.
She also pledged to initiate free wifi prgamme in Lahore, adding that it would be extended to other cities in the next phase.
CM Maryam also pledged to build five IT universities across the province during his five-year stint.
Maryam also announced that she would introduce a school transport system in Punjab. She said that she would also focus on developing the curriculums of government schools.
“It is my dream, as a mother, that no child should be out of school due to a lack of finances, that they get the best education,” Maryam said.
Talking about differently-abled children, she said that state-of-the-art education centers would be established in each district for these children.
She said she had a special package in the works for the transgender community to bring them into mainstream society.
