Washington: The United States has once more hinted at imposing sanctions on Pakistan over its recent agreements with Iran.
During a press briefing, US State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel cautioned against advancing business deals with Iran, stating that sanctions could be enforced if Pakistan proceeds with new agreements with Iran.
Patel emphasized the importance of treatymakers being mindful of the potential sanctions, noting that Pakistan sees its relations with Iran as a component of its foreign policy. He highlighted that sanctions are imposed on entities to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
Yesterday, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller reiterated the warning, advising those contemplating trade deals with Iran to consider the possibility of sanctions. However, Miller clarified that the US is not currently assessing potential sanctions.
Miller also underscored the strong economic ties between the US and Pakistan, noting that the US is one of Pakistan’s largest export markets and a significant investor. He expressed a desire to continue the partnership, highlighting that Pakistan’s economic prosperity is beneficial for both nations.
