The Central Council of the Awami National Party (ANP) made a significant decision on Sunday, unanimously electing Senator Aimal Wali Khan as the Central President of the party.
The proposal for Senator Aimal Wali Khan’s appointment to the central presidency was put forward by former Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, a move that received wholehearted approval from all members of the ANP’s Central Council.
At 38 years old, Aimal Wali Khan brings with him a rich political heritage, being the son of the former central president of ANP, Asfandyar Wali Khan, the grandson of the party’s founder, Abdul Wali Khan, and the great-grandson of the illustrious Abdul Ghaffar Khan, founder of the Khudai Khidmatgar movement.
Aimal embarked on his political journey in 2007 as a dedicated worker for the Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF), a commitment he maintained until 2011. His rise within the ANP ranks continued, culminating in his election as Provincial President of ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on April 12, 2019. Additionally, Aimal holds the Directorship of the Baacha Khan Trust, further solidifying his commitment to the principles and ideals championed by his esteemed predecessors.
Moreover, retired brigadier Saleem Khan was elected as the general secretary of ANP. Similarly, Sardar Hussain Babak became the secretary for external affairs, Engineer Ehsan the secretary for information, and Dr Meerab Awan the central secretary for transgender rights.
