ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry of Education, in a concerted effort with the district administration, is set to introduce a pioneering initiative: a fleet of 20 distinctive pink buses dedicated to providing free transportation for female students and teachers across Islamabad.
These specially designated buses, easily recognizable by their striking pink hue, will cater exclusively to the transportation needs of female students and teachers. With routes spanning both rural and urban areas of Islamabad, this initiative aims to address the pressing issue of inadequate transportation facilities, particularly for women and girls.
The Secretary of Education underscored the significance of this initiative, emphasizing that it stems from a deep concern for ensuring equitable access to education. Currently, a substantial portion—30 percent—of the total 385 buses in Islamabad remains unused due to various challenges such as budget constraints, driver shortages, and maintenance issues.
To swiftly address these hurdles, the ministry has committed to refurbishing and activating the dormant buses by June 15. Once operational, these buses will commence their vital role in providing free transportation services to female teachers and students, marking a significant stride towards enhancing educational accessibility and empowerment in the capital.
