UAE FM arrives in Washington to sign peace accord with Israel

DUBAI: United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday arrived in Washington to sign the peace accord with Israel.

The foreign minister is visiting on the invitation of United States President Donald Trump on behalf of UAE President and Emir of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He is leading a UAE high-ranking delegation to participate in the signing ceremony of the historic agreement on 15th September in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The delegation includes Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Reem Ebrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and other senior officials.

President Donald Trump will hold the signing ceremony for a groundbreaking Middle East agreement normalising relations between Israel and the UAE.

A senior White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity told an international news agency that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would lead his country delegations to the ceremony. Netanyahu said he is “proud to take part in a historic white house ceremony with UAE.”

Delegations from Israel and the UAE have met in Abu Dhabi to sign bilateral agreements. The delegation comprised of representatives from the investment, finance, health, civil space and aviation, foreign policy, diplomacy, tourism, and culture sectors,

The delegation is expected to meet with a number of representatives of UAE government agencies to discuss ways to develop relations in related fields and promote joint action and opportunities for cooperation.

As a result of this diplomatic breakthrough, Israel will suspend declaring sovereignty over areas on Palestine and will work now on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.

The United Arab Emirates and Israel will immediately expand and accelerate cooperation regarding the treatment of and the development of a vaccine for the coronavirus. Working together, these efforts will help save Muslim, Jewish, and Christian lives throughout the region.
