Traffic police authorities have stated that two roads in Karachi have been closed to traffic.

According to the traffic police, the service road on University Road from Mosamiyat to NIPA has been closed due to ongoing development work.

The police further said that, in order to maintain the flow of traffic, vehicles are being diverted from Bazaar Cut onto the main road.

In addition, the road leading from Jail Road to Mazar-e-Quaid has also been completely closed to traffic.

A few days earlier, the Sindh High Court had observed that the BRT Red Line project is expected to become operational by October 2027, and that the construction work must not disrupt the flow of traffic on University Road under any circumstances.

The court remarked that the public is facing severe difficulties due to the poor condition of University Road and directed the Sindh Government to make the road fully operational within two months. The court further stressed that there should be no obstruction to public or private transport on the route.

The court also stated that the Sindh Government may allocate additional funds directly or reallocate resources for this purpose.

It added that Trans Karachi may approach the Dispute Resolution Board for machinery-related matters if required, while the contractor would remain free to initiate legal proceedings regarding the termination of the contract.

Copies of the ruling were ordered to be sent to the Chief Secretary and the Secretary for Local Government Sindh for compliance, while the petition filed by the contractor was subsequently disposed of.
